The Double Cloth Cotton Throw, Defined.
A double cloth is a textile where two or more complete cloth layers are woven one above the other. The result is a two-layered cloth, that allows for more decorative possibilities, and creates a thicker, warmer textile.
“The magic of the double cloth is that you have double the amount of threads, so it gives the throw a really nice weight. And then of course it’s reversible – two distinct fabrics stitched together, giving you different designs on either side. The Design
Our Double Cloth throw uses a mix of high contrast colours against a unique weave construction, giving it a 3D-esque effect. Designed with both top and bottom borders for a finished look when hanging it over a bed.
The Palette
For The Double Cloth palette, our designer experimented with natural, earthy tones.
“The Karoo colourway is a mix full of rusts, browns, oranges and grey. It speaks to that arid, yet strikingly beautiful landscape so distinct to this region. And then Camdeboo – a nature reserve in the Eastern Cape where you’ll find the Valley of Desolation. There’s something about those mountains that cast blue shadows in the early mornings and late afternoons – that’s what we captured in the Camdeboo. With the Wild Fire and Seven Seas, we played with those rich palates, but worked with a more uniform, geometric design.”

I bought this double cloth for my wife as a birthday gift for her. The texture of the fabric is superb. Beautiful and soft to the touch. We use ours on our bed as a bedspread. Apart from looking so good on the bed, it is also very comfortable to lie on for an afternoon snooze. I bought this intending to use it on a leather couch in our lounge, but it has not moved there yet. Still admiring the all the colours at the moment as it is on the spare bed. We have the original Vrou-Vrou on the main bed, but may replace it with the Karoo double cloth in this warmer weather. After reading one of the reviews, I may use it as a table cloth. Who knew.
We visit Plett every year and always check on the new items and colours. I then do online shopping when we get back home, as it is so efficient and the goods are always delivered 1 or 2 days later in Cape Town.

After seeing a smaller version in a shop in Hobart, I recently bought the Mungo Double Cloth Karoo throw in super king size, but we’re using it as a table cloth! It fits our dining table perfectly, and is heavy enough that it doesn’t move around. The workmanship is astoundingly good. The weave is dense and really tactile, and it hangs so elegantly. The Karoo colours blend so well with our dining room which has Australian native timber flooring and beams.
